[Class 135] [See also Group XI] A valve device for controlling the supply to a gas burner, actuated by placing an utensil in position, has the valve actuating spindle in two parts separated by an imperforate packing diaphragm. In the form shown in the Figure the control valve which is housed in the same casing as a regulating cock 14 has a conical part 22 adapted to co-operate with a seat in the rounded end of the casing which projects into the burner tube 11 and a cylindrical part 28 adapted to obturate a port 20 leading to the regulating cock. The valve spindle 34 projects into a supplementary casing 32 into contact with the packing diaphragm 35 which is held in position by a member 36. A pusher piece 38 is slidably mounted in the member 36 and contacts with the other side of the diaphragm and with the shorter arm of a lever 41. This lever is coupled by a link 42 with a bell-crank lever 45 loaded by a spring 47. An actuating member with a mushroom or rounded head 51 for engagement with the utensil is slidably mounted in a guide tube 94 and rests on one arm of the bell-crank lever. The outer end of the casing 32 is closed by a screwed plug 49 which acts as an adjustable stop to limit the valve opening. In a modification the valve is formed with a mushroom head cooperating with a rotatable seat having alternative outlet ports of differing size and the pusher piece is coupled to the actuating member by a see-saw lever. The burner head is fitted with a conical wire gauze 96 and with a circular closure member 92 mounted on the guide tube. The member 92 has a series of gas outlets 93 arranged so that the flame is first directed outwards away from the burner and then curls inwards. The pilot burner is of the atmospheric type and comprises a nipple 153 spaced away from the open end of a tube 53 within the main burner leading to a point in proximity to one of the gas outlets 93.
