Abstract

588,905. Buildings. McALPINE, Sir M. March 10, 1945, No. 6031. [Class 20 (iv)] The walls of buildings are built from storeyhigh rectangular elements each comprising a covered wooden frame having a longitudinal groove 32 along its lower edge which engages a tongue 22 upstanding from the foundation or footing 21. After the first element has been positioned the second element is placed on blades 44 out of contact with the damn-course 43 so as to avoid the damage thereto which would be caused if the elements were slid into position. After the groove 32 of the second element has been centred over the tongue 22 and the. second element moved to abut against the first the second element is levered up somewhat to enable the blades 44 to be removed and to permit studs 41 projecting from one vertical edge of the second element to rise in the large upper apertures of key-hole slots formed in the vertical edge of the adjacent element in which the studs have already engaged. The second element is now dropped and the studs pass into the restricted portions of the key-hole slots thereby locking the elements together. Additional security is given by co-acting ribs 33 and grooves 34. The outside of the frame elements may comprise steel or aluminium sheets 29 with joint-sealing strips 35 and a heat-insulating layer 30 of glass silk may be inserted in the elements. A second storey and roof may be added.
