588,429. Hinges for endless tracks for vehicles. SOC NOUVELLE DES AUTOMOBILES UNIC. Dec. 4, 1939, No. 31415. Convention date, Dec. 9, 1938. [Class 79 (i)] [Also in Group XXV] A hinge for chains, endless tracks &c. comprises a spindle 5 rotatably secured to one set 4 of links or the like and rotating in a sleeve 2 secured to the other set of links 1, a bearing such as a bush 6 taking all the radial loads of the hinge, and two rubber rings 3b secured to the ends of the sleeve to protect the bearing, which may be self-lubricating or lubricated in any suitable manner. In the construction shown in Figs. 1, 3 and 4 the spindle 5 is grooved as shown, these grooves engaging similar grooves in the links 4 and the bush 6 so that these parts are locked together against rotation. Each link 1 has a central boss within which the sleeve 2 is secured, the sleeve 2 having a bearing on the bush 6. The ends of the bush sleeve 2 are sealed by rubber rings 3b secured in place under slight compression by metal rings 3a, 3c, the latter being grooved to fit on the spindle 5. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 comprises also a modification, Fig. 5, (Cancelled) in which the bearing bush 6, sleeve 2, , and the rubber seals 3b are all enclosed by a sleeve 3 so that the whole hinge fitting can be inserted in the link 1 as a unit, the sleeve 8 being a force fit in the link. Roller bearings may be used instead of the plain bearing 6. The bearing may be sealed by rubber rings forcibly inserted between the spindle 5 and the bore of the link 1.
