Abstract

884,170. Rubber bushes. GOODRICH CO., B.F. April 9, 1958 [April 24, 1957], No. 11196/58. Class 108(3). In the bushing assembly shown in Fig. 3, annular bodies of resilient rubber 14, 19 are bonded to outer and inner metal sleeves 13, 18 respectively. The inner and outer members are rotatable with respect to each other, the bearing surfaces between the two being the ends 21 of ribs 20 and the surface 15 of the rubber member 14. The area of bearing surface is chosen to suit the radial load to be supported. Lubrication of the bearing surfaces may be obtained by incorporating lubricating ingredients with the rubber or packing the bushes with grease. A rib 25 and a groove 26 prevent axial displacement of the bushes and retain the lubricating grease. Axial forces are cushioned by a plate 44 and a rubber portion 28. In the embodiment shown in Fig. 4, an outer metal member 52 bears against a rubber surface 54 bonded to a metal sleeve 55. A flange 62 and a groove 63 prevent axial displacement. The bearing surface of the sleeve 52 may be coated with tetrafluoroethylene.
