Abstract

602,484. Bearings. DETIFFE, N. July 11, 1945, No. 17657. Convention date, Nov. 19, 1942. [Class 12 (i)] A self-lubricating journal or combined journal and thrust bearing has each of the co-operating sliding surfaces provided with graphite insertions whereby graphite-to-graphite sliding can occur. Thus, an electric trolley wheel 1 rotating on a fixed axle has a graphite-filled helical groove 4 on the interior of the wheel bush 2 while the co-operating fixed axle 3 likewise has a graphite-filled helical groove 5 of opposite hand. The end faces 6 of the bush are shown with graphite blocks 5 extending across the full width of the end annulus and co-operate with thrust washers also having graphite blocks extending across the full width of the annulus.
