[Class 24] [Also in Group XXXI] In order to lubricate the joints of an endless track or chain the joint pin 1 carrying an outer link 8 is formed with a peripheral groove 6 extending through about 180 degrees, this groove being engaged by a member 13 carried by a bearing sleeve 9 which surrounds the pin and carries an inner link 10, so that when the sleeve oscillates on the pin due to hinge movement of the links grease is forced by the member 13 along the groove to other lubricating grooves such as 7, 5. In the construction shown grease is introduced by a grease gun through a ball valve 3 into a central bore 2 leading through radial bores 4 to the grooves 5, 7. An outer sleeve 11 may act as a roller to engage the sprocket teeth and may be provided with lubricating grooves communicating with the grooves 5. Grease is retained by packing rings such as 20, and spring rings 14 are provided to retain some of these packings in place. The members 13 may be cylindrical as shown, or may be rectangular blocks to engage wide grooves 6. Rollers 17 engaging fixed rails 25 are mounted on the pins 1 by roller bearings 18, the inner and outer races of which are formed by the pins and rollers themselves to economize space.
