Abstract

1,059,247. Endless-tracks. PETTIBONE MULLIKEN CORPORATION. Aug. 10, 1965, No. 34255/65. Heading B7H. [Also in Division F2] In a track chain of a track-laying vehicle, seals 18, each comprising a wear-resistant ring 19 bonded to an oil-resistant rubber ring 20, prevent entry of dirt between the bearing surfaces of sleeves 12 and joint pins 11 on which the sleeves are journalled. Side links 10 of the chain each have one end force-fitted on to a sleeve 12 and the other end force-fitted on to an adjacent joint pin 11, with the sleeve ends projecting into annular recesses in said other ends of the links to abut the bases of the recesses. Smaller diameter recesses extending axially from the first recesses in the links 10 house the seals 18, which have greater axial length than the depth of said smaller recesses, so that the rings 19 are urged against the ends of the sleeves 12, and the rings 20 are compressed against the walls of the smaller recesses to grip them frictionally so that relative movement occurs only between the abutting surfaces of the rings 19 and sleeve ends 12, which surfaces have a smooth ground finish.
