Abstract

587,671. Coated fabrics. JONES, W. YARWORTH-. Nov. 1, 1943, No. 18065. [Class 140] Woven fabric having warp and weft textile threads and warp and weft metal threads or wires, such as that described in Specification 542,379, is coated with an amount of dope, lacquer or paint sufficient to form a skin which takes on a configuration determined by the contour of the fabric. The coating substance may be a dope such as a phenol or urea formaldehyde resin in a solvent of alcohol or water, cellulose acetate dope, drying oil, paint, lacquer or varnish, several coats of one or more of which may be applied as by spraying. Paint may be applied by the apparatus of the drawing, in which paint contained in trough 1 is fed to the uppermost of a pair of rollers 2 mounted on carriage 3; the fabric 6, supported as at 7, is coated by a traverse movement of the trough and carriage unit. Steam is supplied to the trough and roller from boiler 4 through flexible pipes 5. Alternatively, the unit may be stationary and the fabric fed between the rollers.
