Abstract

391,191. Finishing pile fabrics. BRITISH CELANESE, Ltd., 22, Hanover Square, London, DICKIE, W. A. and GENTLE, A. H., c/o British Celanese, Spondon, near Derby. Oct. 21, 1931, No. 29213. [Class 42 (i).] The pile of pile fabrics is glossed or flattened over the whole surface or in stripes or checks while applying water or other vapour to the part being treated. The invention is particularly applicable to the treatment of fabrics of which the pile contains cellulose acetate or other organic derivatives of cellulose. The fabric 10 passes around guide rollers 11, 12 and a tension roller 13 to a steam-box 17 provided with a steam-pipe 20 directing the steam to a baffle 21 so that the vapour is evenly distributed in the box and passes through the fabric while it is acted on by a bar 23 covered with felt 24. The fabric passes thence to a porcupine drag roller 18. The bar may have cut-away parts so that the fabric is treated in strips, or a wooden roller having cut-away parts and driven at a lower speed than that of the fabric may be employed for treating the pile to produce check effects. Means may be provided for adjusting the pressure of the bar or roller on the fabric and for moving it out of contact therewith. A hood 26 may be employed to conduct acetone vapour to a recovery plant.
