586,882. Electrolytic cells for the production of hydrogen and oxygen. MASCHINENFABRIK OERLIKON. Sept. 20, 1944, No. 17982. Convention date, Oct. 27, 1943. Addition to 543,671. [Class 41] In a bipolar electrolyzer, hydrogen is led from each cathode compartment by a separate pipe 6 to a gas separator 8 from which condensed liquid leaves by a pipe 9 communicating with a reservoir 10 open to the atmosphere, oxygen from each anode compartments being similarly led to a separator 8<1> the liquid exit from which also communicates with the reservoir 10; liquid is returned to the cells by a pump 17. By arranging the liquid exits from the separators above the bottom of the gas discharge tubes 19, 19<1> a safety seal is maintained when variations of pressure occur in the cells. Insulating members 7 are arranged in the gas withdrawal pipes and the liquid feed pipes.
