Abstract
586,561. Gas turbines. HALL, J. S., JENSON, G., and METROPOLITANVICKERS ELECTRICAL CO., Ltd. Feb. 11, 1942, No. 1844. [Class 110 (iii)] In contra-rotational turbines and air-compressors, the rotors are built up of a series of flanged sections integral with the foundation rings carrying the blades or with the shrouding rings. In the form shown in Fig. 1 each foundation ring 1a-5a, is at one end of its section 1c-5c, and the sections are secured together by rivets 8. The blades are unshrouded and the tips are covered by bridging members 9 on the other rotor. In the form shown in Fig. 3, the foundation rings are at the inner ends of the blades of both rotors. The ring 14a is in the middle part of the section 14y and the foundation rings 12a, 16a, are clamped between adjacent sections. Blades 11, 13, 15 are similarly built into the outer rotor by integral rings 11g, 13g, 15g, of smaller cross-section. Bridging members 10z cover the unshrouded blades of the inner rotor. In another form, similar to that shown in Fig. 3, all the blades are unshrouded and the foundation rings of both sets of blades are integral with the rotor parts and bridging members are provided on both rotors.
