Abstract
586,285. Air supply to furnaces. GALLAGHER, J. April 22, 1944, No. 7502. [Class 51 (i)] Air is supplied to the underside of the firebars 10 through a duct which opens into the front end of the ashpit 11 and comprises fixed side walls 13 and pivoted upper and lower walls 14, 15, the latter being independently movable so that the quantity or direction of the air current may be varied and also, when desired, the direction may be varied without substantially altering the cross-sectional area of the inlet end of the duct. The upper wall 14 is pivoted at its inner end 17 while the lower wall 15 is movable about an axis 16 intermediate its ends; clamping bolts 14a, 15a, passing through arcuate slots 14b, 15b are provided for securing the walls in the adjusted position. The firebars 10 are deeper at the front than at the back and are formed with curved air deflectors 10b; additional deflectors 10c, adjustable longitudinally on rods at the sides of the furnace, may be provided below the bars.
