Abstract
<PICT:0586131/III/1> A finely divided oxidation catalyst is suspended in a current of air mixed with a current of air and ammonia vapour and passed into a reaction chamber 6 wherein it remains as a relatively dense suspension. The oxidation products are withdrawn by a pipe 10 and freed from suspended solids in a cyclone 11. Catalyst is withdrawn by the pipe 16 and mixed with air supplied by pump 21; the suspension is passed through cooler 24 and mixed with fresh reaction mixture and recycled. Another portion of catalyst may be withdrawn by pipe 16a and recycled after regeneration, e.g., by washing with hot hydrochloric acid in 27 and with water in 29 followed by drying in 30.
