Abstract

585,851. Quick-action switches. TENCH, F. (Automatic Electric Laboratories, Inc.). Dec. 6, 1944, No. 24346. [Class 38 (v)] [Also in Group XL] The construction of the wave range switches is shown in Figs. 1 and 2. Mounted on the chassis in four sets, each set corresponding to one frequency range, are shielded compartments 14 each of which contain switch blades 31-33 actuating rod 26 and block 29 and an associated inductance coil (not shown). Each set of switches is actuated by a cam 19 on a control spindle 16 pressing against the first of the axially aligned rods 26 which are inter-connected by adjustable screws 41 and urged towards cam 19 by spring 45. Also mounted on the common spindle 16 are cams 21, 23 each actuating by means of followers 54, two sets of switch blades which are effective in changing the operating frequency of the IF amplifier as above. Two further cams, corresponding to cam 22, operate similar switches for broadening the frequency response of the IF amplifier. The switch blades 31-33 are formed of cylindrical wire rod to reduce the interelement capacitance, the terminal portions of the fixed blades 32, 33 being arcuate in shape for better contact with the blade 31 after it has been moved by co-operation with the aperture in the block 29. The control spindle is located in its different operating positions by the engagement of a roller 68 with notches in the periphery of a detent wheel 67, the roller 68 being mounted on a spring tensioned lever 69. Variation in the sequence of operation of the different switches controlled by any one cam may be obtained by the adjustment of the connecting screws 41.
