[Class 38 (i)] [Also in Groups XXII and XXIII] A terminal C is secured on the end of a conductor W by means of a tool such as pliers or foot or power-operated presses producing closely spaced transverse crimp portions 88, 89 and the crimping dies 44 ... 47 on the jaws 20, 22 of the tool may be deeper on one side of the jaw gaps 40, 42 than on the other side so as to produce deeper crimps near the end of the conductor. One of the jaws may be provided with a bracket 60 and adjustable gauge 64 recessed at 69 to locate the terminal during the operation. The joint may be protected against corrosion or access of moisture by coating the end of the wire or the inside of the ferrule with a wax or cellulosic plastic or other water repelling plastic substance.
