Abstract
694,518. Pliers. LAGES, C. A., and MATHER, R. Dec. 3, 1951 [Dec. 18, 1950], No. 30811/50. Class 61 (ii). Pliers for bending wires particularly those used by dentists for lingual bars comprise a cylindrical body 11 having an integral L- shaped head 19 which carries the anvil jaw 38, the presser jaw 35 being mounted on a plunger which is slidable in a bore in the body. The handle 10 is integral with the body, the handle 14 being pivoted to the body at 15 and having an inwardly directed arm 32 grooved at 31 to receive the flat end 30 of the spring retracted plunger 27 which is provided with an arcuate bottom surface. The opening of the handles is limited by stop surfaces on the handle 14 and body 11. The upright arm of the L-shaped head 19 is bifurcated to provide an. opening 21 through which a wire may be passed. The anvil jaw 38 which is detachably mounted in a bore in the horizontal part of the head is positioned between the bifurcations providing the opening 21. The jaw 38 has a conical recess and diametrically opposed grooves at its edges to locate the wire. The presser jaw 35 which is detachably mounted in the plunger by means of a screw threaded stem has a frusto-conical nose grooved diametrically by a pair of intersecting grooves. The jaws are made of such materials as phosphor bronze, tough plastic or vulcanised fibre.
