Abstract

585,176. Gateposts. MUNRO, J. G. Aug. 15, 1944, No. 15521. [Class 45] [Also in Group XXV] Relates to a gate 10 pivotally mounted on the upper portion of an upright spindle 17 which engages within the gate hinge post 11, the lower portion of the spindle being removably inserted in a socket 14 in a pedestal 13 or anchorage sunk into the ground or other foundation. According to the invention, a metallic sleeve 15 in the hinge post surrounds the upper portion of the spindle and is fitted with an upper end bearing, the pedestal 13 being provided with a footstep bearing for the lower portion of the spindle. As shown, the sleeve 15 is closed at its upper end by a screwthreaded bush 16 which rests on the head 19 of a bolt 18 screwed into the upper end of the spindle 17 so that by adjusting the bolt the height of the gate may be varied. A locknut 20 retains the bolt in adjusted position. Rotation of the spindle is prevented by a non-circular plug 21 at its lower end engaging a mating part in the pedestal 13. The latch post 12 is constructed and mounted in a manner similar to the hinge post 11.
