Abstract
527,131. Sliding bolts. BUNN, Ltd., C., and BROOKES, R. P. April 4, 1939, No. 10425. [Class 44] A bolt fastening particularly for doors hinged to move on a horizontal axis, comprises a segmental dished plate 5 providing an attachment flange 8, and sunk part 7 which is let into the door with the straight edge 6 flush with the edge of the door, and a rectangular bolt 12 slidably guided in a slotted integral rib 10. As shown, the slot extends through part 7 and beyond the end of the rib to allow insertion of the bolt from the front, a plate 18 being then secured as by rivets 20 to retain the bolt. The front face of the rib has a slot 16 to receive the stem 15 of a T-form handle 14 which may be screwed into or permanently secured to the bolt. The rib is of less depth than the sunk portion so that the handle may be substantially flush with the face of plate 5. The bolt may be retained against accidental movement by a blade spring, not shown, the middle of which is secured to the bolt, the ends bearing against, and co-operating with recesses in, the front wall of the rib or the plate 18. Additionally or alternatively a ball catch 21 carried by the bolt co-operates with recesses 22, 23 in the rib.
