Abstract
338,049. Dickson, V. E., and Stevens, C. H. Jan. 25, 1929, [Convention date]. Gates.-A joint for connecting together two members A, B, stated to be applicable to gates, comprises a flat metal plate 5 let into a narrow slit in the upright supporting member B and retained there by a cross member 10, the plate having an inclined upwardly directed slot 2 with which engages a cross member 17 or a stirrup 22 arranged in a recess in the end of the supported member A. The plate 5 may have shoulders 12, 13 driven slightly into the member B, the shoulder 13 bearing against the head of a screw 14, or a lower shoulder 21 only, may be provided to bear against the face of the member B. According to the Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) the joint is applicable also to scaffolding, and when the member A is made of angle iron, a vertical slot may be provided in the end plate, the metal above the slot engaging the slot 2 in the plate 5 and replacing the member 17 or 22. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
