Abstract
584,549. Condensers; resistors. BRITISH INSULATED CABLES, Ltd., and QUAYLE, J. C. Aug. 2, 1944, No. 14772. [Class 37] A condenser or resistor is provided with a tightly fitting skin of plasticized or unplasticized polyvinylidene chloride. For example, a plasticized polyvinylidene chloride strip 1, which has been stretched lengthwise in manufacture and wound into a roll 2, is joined at one end to condenser casing comprising an impregnated paper tube 3 with metal end caps 4, and wound thereon by rotating the casing between clamping heads 6. The overlapping portions of the strip are then joined and the remaining strip is cut away. The joining of these portions and of the strip to the casing may be effected by heating and smoothing or by an adhesive such as a solution of polyvinylidene chloride and polyvinyl chloride in cyclohexanone. The covered condenser is then heated to about 200‹C. for 5 to 15 minutes to tighten the covering, the over hanging ends of which collapse and adhere to the end caps 4. The covering may also be applied in tubular form or by moulding.
