Abstract
<PICT:0641090/IV (a)/1> <PICT:0641090/IV (a)/2> Tubing is formed from an extruded thermoplastic strip, Fig. 3, with a bead 4 along one edge so that on winding helically round a mandrel 6 the rib 4 overlaps the edge of the strip 3 and is bonded thereto. Materials mentioned include vinyl polymers, polymerized vinyl acetate, polyethylenes and nylon resins. If the tubing is formed immediately after extrusion of the strip 3, the temperature is sufficient to cause bonding under the pressure of the winding action, but a cement or a solvent may be used for the bonding. For large diameter tubes the strip may be formed with a bead 4 along one edge and one or more beads along the length of the flexible part 3 of the strip. The beads, which may be formed on the inside of the tubing, may be semi-circular, preferably with a hollow core 41, Fig. 3, or they may be triangular. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 comprises also tubing formed from a strip having flexible parts 23, 24, Fig. 11 (Cancelled), and an annular rib 25. Tubing may also be formed from a flat strip wound helically on a mandrel with the edges overlapping to form the reinforcing rib. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
