Abstract

494,337. Collapsable tubes. WEBB,L. March 18, 1937, No. 8004. [Class 66] The body portions 31, Fig. 1, of collapsable tubes are formed from two or more helically wound tubular sleeves superposed one on another, the overlapping convolutions forming the sleeves being sealed together by means of heat or adhesive. The sleeves 21, 22, are composed of paper, metal foil, or paper coated with metal foil, and the innermost and outermost ones 20, 23, of a cellulose derivative. The sleeves are preferably rendered waterresisting, for instance by means of a coating of chlorinated rubber. One or more of the sleeves are extended beyond the others, this end of the tube being closed and sealed by a first fold formed in the extended sleeve or sleeves and by a second one made in all the sleeves, sealing means such as heat, cement, or a clip being applied if desired. The bodies are attached to neck portions made either of non-corrosive metal or thermoplastic moulded material, any usual mode of attachment being employed in the former instance. When moulded necks 29 are provided they may be attached to the bodies by a metal clamping band such as 32, Fig. 5, or by means of an inset metal collar 36, Figs. 6, 8, suitably engaged with the upper edge of the body.
