Abstract
569,360. Collapsable tubes. BRITISH CELANESE, Ltd. Nov. 15, 1943, No. 19022. Convention date, Nov. 18, 1942. [Class 66] [Also in Group V] A collapsable tube 1, formed of organic filmforming material, has attached thereto along its length a brittle or permanently-deformable paper strip to prevent unrolling. The strip may be attached to the inside or outside of the tube by covering it with a film 7 of the organic material or it may be fixed between overlapping edges of the tube. Two strips 6, Fig. 5, may be creased to V-shape and attached to opposite sides of the tube. Paper filled with clays or other pigments, or coated or filled with resinous plastics, may be used. The tube may be formed with one end closed or both ends open. In the latter case, the bottom end may be sealed by heat and pressure or by a metal or plastic clamp 5. The tube may be coated internally to protect it from the contents. The filmforming material may be cellulose acetate, formate, butyrate, butyrate-acetate or nitrate, ethyl or benzyl cellulose, polyvinyl chloride or acetal, a polyacrylic or polymethacrylic ester or polystyrene and may contain plasticizers, dyes or pigments. The Specification, as open to inspection under Sect. 91, comprises also the use of metal or fabric strips or iron or copper wires and methods of making the tubes as by dipping, dry extrusion, blowing, a combination of dipping or dry extrusion with blowing to enlarge the tube formed by the first step, and butt welding or spiral wrapping of film or foil with or without dipping. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
