Abstract

848,809. Tube linings. MATTHEWS, R. K. April 30, 1958, No. 13713/58. Class 99(2). [Also in Group XXIX] A tube 1, Fig. 7, has a detachable flexible lining 2 of plastic, rubber, paper or textile which can be withdrawn from the tube whilst retaining its contents should the lining become fouled. The lining may include creases on folds such as 5, Fig. 2, or attached perforated strips 6 6, Fig. 4, which are escape ducts for entrapped air leading either to air escape valves or to the tube ends or may be a plain tube fitted to pipes having perforations as at 7, Fig. 7. The lining may incorporate cords, with trailing ends, running longitudinally or helically embedded during spiral winding of the lining. Alternatively, the lining may be moulded or made from sheet formed to a circular cross-section and welded longitudinally. Joints between linings may be made as at 2, Fig. 7, by folding back the linings 1 over the tube ends 1 and clamping a surrounding sleeve over both ends, or by clamping the scarf junction of two linings, between conical ferrules. In another embodiment a lining is folded back over a tube end and is trapped between rubber collars recessed into a union body.
