Abstract
1,166,131. Pipe joints. PARKINSON COWAN Ltd. 16 April, 1968 [15 April, 1967], No. 17393/67. Heading F2G. Air intake and flue pipes 1, 2 passing through holes 3, 4 in a wall, are positioned and sealed from the inside by means of a sleeve 6 of natural or silicone rubber which is bonded to the pipe at its outer end and to a slidable sleeve 7 at its other end, so that when the sleeve 7 is moved along the pipe a raised fold or head is formed in the rubber sleeve which can then be sealed against the wall by rearward movement of the pipe. Both pipes are secured in this position by a spring steel grip washer 8 having two holes and accommodated within the wall plaster 9 (Fig. 2, not shown). The sealing sleeve 6 may be of uniform section as shown, or it may be moulded to provide one or more rings of reduced section to enhance the radial expansion. Alternatively the sleeve may be expanded by the compression of a layer of plastic or adhesive material beneath the sleeve. Alternatively, the sleeve may be moulded with an expanded portion which is pulled down for insertion and then allowed to expand. In another form, the expansion is caused by twisting instead of axial movement.
