Abstract
584,210. Bearings. SUFFOLK IRON FOUNDRY (1920), Ltd., and TALBOT, A. G. Dec. 14, 1944, No. 25137. [Class 12 (i)] The cutter of a lawn mower is journalled in bearing brackets each of which is adjustable lengthwise of the axis of a spindle by which the bearing bracket is also rotatably supported. This permits the necessary setting of the cutter relatively to the sole plate and allows alignment of the bearings although the side frame members of the lawn mower may not be properly parallel. In the arrangement shown a bearing bracket 3 is held in position on its support spindle by a clamping screw 8. The spindle 7 is slidable and rotatable in upper and lower blocks 9, 10 provided on the side frame 11 and is adjusted by a thumb screw 17, or by a cam, which depresses the spindle against the action of a spring 15 compressed between the lower block 10 and the clamped sleeve portion 6 of the bearing bracket 3. The journals 1 of the cutter are inserted in a plain, ball, or roller bearing 2 secured in each bearing bracket 3 by a set screw 5. The support spindle may be non-rotatable in which case the bearing bracket must be mounted so as to be rotatable but not axially displaceable on the spindle.
