Abstract

309,886. British United Shoe Machinery Co., Ltd., and Ricks, F. Jan. 17, 1928. Milling-cutters, machines with. - In a machine for bevelling the margin of the heel-seat of a reinforced insole &c. a shaft 9, driven by a pulley 64 carries a rotary tool 13. In the frame 7 is mounted a stem 19 adjusted by a screw 45 and carrying an arm 43 urged by a spring against an adjusting screw 41. Adjustable on the arm by a screw 59, is a block 25 carrying a freely mounted work support 27 with a raised circular edge gauge 33, Fig. 4, not shown. An arcuate presser plate 47 is mounted on links 51 and is urged by a spring 53 to press the work on to the work-support away from the cutter. A sole to be bevelled is inserted between the members 27, 47 with the edge at the commencement of the bevel against a gauge, and the sole is drawn and turned to the finish of the operation, the cutting point being transferred from the lowest point of the cutter to the most forward point. A fan and hood are fitted to expel dust. To bevel the edges of soles attached to their lasts the arrangement shown in Fig. 5 is used. A freely mounted work support 65 is carried by the member 25 and a disc 73 secured to the hollow cutter 13 is housed in a hollowed portion of the member 65. Surfaces 77, 65 position the last while the sole is bevelled by the cutter.
