Abstract

584,179. Cooling cylinders. BRIGGS MANUFACTURING CO., and WYATT, R. A. Dec. 13, 1944, No. 25010. [Class 7 (ii)] The edges of a tubular jacket 52 are sealed by resilient sealing rings 51, 53, e.g., of the material known as Neoprene-which are compressed between the cylinder head skirt and a flange 22a on the cylinder barrel when the barrel is screwed into the head. Seatings-are formed on the opposing parts to receive the rings which are, preferably initially circular in section. The seating on the jacket may be formed by bending back the edge but alternatively an annular sheet metal ring may be bonded to the sealing ring to form a seating. The jacket is preferably made of sheet metal-e.g. steel or aluminium alloy- and is tapered or stepped as shown. The entrance and exit for the coolant are located in the cylinder head.
