583,572. Grinding machines. NORTON CO. Nov. 2, 1944, No. 21474. Convention date, May 22. [Class 60] A worktable for a grinding-machine comprises a rotatable work support, including headstock and tailstock mounted on a rocking support, rocker surfaces between the table and the support, and a master cam and follower roller for rocking the support during grinding. A workpiece 15, having a cam part 40 to be ground, is carried by a headstock spindle 16 and a tailstock 20, both mounted on a rocker table 14 supported, by rockers with surfaces concentric with the spindle 16 and work 15, on a longitudinally movable table. For suitably rocking the work, a master cam 52 on the spindle 16 engages a follower roller slidably keyed on a fixed shaft, by means of a hydraulically operated piston and rod connected to an arm 85 on the table 14 and contained in a pivoted cylinder 80. The axis of the work is adjusted parallel to the axis of the grinding-wheel 41 by means of gear segments 62, 63, on the rocker table 14, meshing with rack bars 60, 61 on the table, adjustable rack bars 70, 75 taking up any backlash.
