Abstract

582,538. Swath turners. DICKIE, J., and DICKIE & SONS, Ltd., W. April 22, 1944, No. 7516. [Class 6 (iii)] A swath turner has a pair of groups of tines a, a<SP>1</SP> each carried by a saddle or casting c mounted on an axle b and movable axially along the axle, and is provided with side-screens e supported by brackets i secured to the saddles or castings whereby the tines and screens may be moved inwardly together to reduce the overall width of the machine. In the form shown, each screen has a bar l on its upper edge which engages in an open bearing k and closed bearings j, j on a bracket i which is secured to a support h connected to saddle c. Each screen is normally held in its outward operative position by a pin m which can be removed to enable the screen to be folded over to the inoperative position. Each support h has connected to it a rod h<SP>1</SP> whose inner end can be anchored by bolts to a selected one of a number of holes h<SP>5</SP> in a crossbar h<SP>6</SP> of a balance frame c<SP>1</SP>. Forward extensions of the saddles co-operate with this frame to restrict the downward movement of the tines as disclosed in Specification 582,537.
