Abstract

582,480. Centrifugal dust separators. LOFTHEIM, T. B. Nov. 29, 1938, No. 34802. [Class 23] The separator comprises conical compartments separated by blades on a central rotating shaft, dust-laden gas passing longitudinally through the compartments, the cross-sectional areas of which increase with the distance from the axis of rotation. Fig. 3 shows one form in which each element of the rotor has radial arms carrying blades 14, the elements, including a casing ring 13, being driven by a shaft 16. Dust-laden gas enters at 9 and clean gas is delivered through an outlet 25. The gas flow may be reversed. Dust particles are discharged through slots 15 into a chamber 18 which may lead to a single outlet 19, or a number 20-24. A guide-piece 17 preferably does not rotate. In a further arrangement, Figs. 4 and 5, the elements are provided with spiral-shaped guide walls forming cone-like channels arranged approximately radially around the shaft 35 in a rotating housing 31. Dust particles leave through slots 34 and clean gas through outlets 30 leading to a housing 32.
