582,291. Linear - dimension gauges. PARKER ENGINEERING SERVICE, Ltd., and PARKER, C. J. Sept. 1, 1944, No. 16645. [Class 106 (ii)] An internal gauge comprises a tubular casing, in two or more parts adjustable longitudinally relative to one another and having contracted open ends, terminal contact elements enclosed within the casing so as to protrude through said open ends, land one or more loose and removable distance pieces to maintain the terminal contact elements in definite location. In the form of a combination " go " and " not go " gauge, as shown, each of the two gauges A and B comprises two metal tubes 1 having contracted ends 8 and enclosing steel contact balls 9, steel cylinders 10 and one or more distance pieces 11, of any readily workable material, which may be reduced in length to provide the required gauging distance between the contact balls. The tubes 1 are adjusted within sleeves 2 to take up the play between the contact balls and distance pieces, the sleeves being joined by spaced web members 4 of heat-insulating material. The space between the web members is filled with compressible material 5 and screws 6 are provided to release or clamp the tubes 1 in the sleeves 2. Additional sleeves and web members connected by pairs of tubes may be used to lengthen the gauge and the distance pieces may comprise tubes with stepped cylindrical terminal members. To test the diameters of deep holes, a single gauge maybe fitted with a perpendicular handle extending from a central web member. The contact members may be of cylindrical form with hemispherical ends.
