Abstract

581,703. Wall and roof members. GAUNT, O. March 16, 1944, No. 4918. [Classes 20 (ii), 20 (iii) and 20 (iv)] Channel section metal wall or roof members (Fig. 2), having on one flange a lateral lip b<1> which overlaps the plain flange of the adjacent member, are arranged side by side and are connected together by fastenings such as wedgetightened U-shaped clips (Fig. 4) extending through coincident holes b<2> in the flanges. Packing e may be interposed between the flanges, and the lips of roof members may be bent to forma triangular bead. The upper parts of wall and roof members are cut and the webs bent and clipped to the webs of roof members or to double channel section ridge or hip plates respectively, angle pieces also being clipped to the members internally or externally at the joint between walls and roof. Clips are also used to attach plain channel section joists, or joists of the same cross-section as the wall members, to the flanges of wall members, and straps to the flanges of roof members for holding down metal mesh lathing. Wall members may be arranged horizontally above and below window &c. openings. According to the Provisional Specification, plywood floor panels may be attached to the lipped flanges of joists by Z- shaped cleats.
