Abstract

581,341. Preventing corrosion. ARNOLD, J. C. (Standard Oil Development Co.). Dec. 8, 1943, No. 20544. [Class 123 (i)] [Also in Group XXXVI] Metal surfaces are protected against corrosion by employing as anode a flexible sheet, which has a surface area between 1 per cent. and 3 per cent. of that of the surface to be cathodically protected and is of higher negative solution potential than that of the protected metal. Iron oil tanks of tankers are protected by sheet zinc, but magnesium and aluminium are also suitable. A bundle of thin foil sheets may alternatively be employed.
