Abstract
581,001. Photographic diazotype processes. FRANGIALLI, P. Nov. 20, 1939, No. 30407. Convention date, Nov. 19, 1938. [Class 98 (ii)] Positive images are obtained using a lightsensitive diazo compound capable of coupling with a product of its light-decomposition to give an azo dye by exposing under an original (such as a drawing) on a translucent carrier to highly actinic illumination, removing the original, and giving an exposure to slightly actinic illumination or for a short period to an actinic source. The strongly actinic light for the first exposure may be a carbon arc, and the light for the second exposure Wood's light, diffuse daylight, or a high-pressure mercury vapour lamp. A short exposure to the carbon arc may, alternatively, be given. The paper may be damped between the two exposures, and may be allowed to remain in the dark after the second exposure to allow coupling to take place. Hygroscopic substances such as glycerol or glycol may be added to the sensitive material. Urea may also be added. The diazo compound may be an iminazole derivative, for example the diazo compound from C-methylamino-4- naphthiminazole. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 states that with pencil drawings with slightly opaque lines, the second exposure is unnecessary. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
