Abstract

580,790. Soldering. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd., (trading as STANELCO PRODUCTS), and HANDLEY, J. July 26, 1944, No. 14303. [Class 83 (iv)] An electric soldering machine, particularly for making peripheral joints in circular articles, comprises a number of electrodes radially disposed with respect to the work and movably radially to engage simultaneously with the periphery of the work. On the edge 4 of a circular table 3 rising from a pillar 2 are secured by separate clamps 5, a number of brackets 7 which are insulated from the clamps by gaskets 10 and bushes on the securing bolts 9. The brackets are provided with guides for radial slide blocks 11 in which are adjustably secured by screws 15, holders 16 for carbon electrodes 17. The blocks are simultaneously actuated by levers 21 by means of a sleeve 19 moved vertically on the pillar 2, the levers operating the slide blocks through buffers 36 and adjustable springs 37 so that all the carbons engage the work with an even pressure. ' The sleeve is raised and lowered by a hand lever 27 through toggle links 30, 31, levers 32 and tiebars 34 pivoted on trunnions 35 on the sleeve. The springs 37 are adjusted by the nuts 38 and when setting up with the lever 27 not fully operated, screws 15 are relaxed and all the holders brought into contact with the work and the screws 15 then tightened. The transformer leads are connected to plugs 40 fixed to the brackets 7 and connected to the slide blocks by flexible conductors 41. Alternate carbons are connected to opposite. terminals of the transformer,- the circuit being completed through the work and controlled by a foot switch. For hard soldering or brazing, the holders may be water cooled.
