Abstract

580,691. Garages; temporary shelters. ALTHAM, W. F. Feb. 14, 1944, No. 2665. [Class .20 (i)] A temporary shelter comprises a sheet of flexible waterproof material having extension flaps on one or more of its edges, the sheet being wound on a roller mounted on a board located at a height above the ground, so that when the sheet is unwound, it forms the roof and at least one side or end of the shelter. A garage may be provided adjacent a housewall 12, Fig. 2, by mounting a roller on brackets 14 on a board 10 carried by tubular uprights 11 in which slide weights 19 on cables 18 wound on pulleys on the roller and tending to wind the flexible sheet 20 on to the roller. Posts 21 defining the outer wall of the garage are positioned in sockets 23 and have pins 24 to receive a bar 28 secured to the flexible sheet. ‹End and side flaps are formed from extensions on the flexible sheet. One end flap may be replaced by a wooden or other rigid door hinged from the permanent wall of the building. Two or more board and roller assemblies may be used back to back. Clips 22 on the board 10 receive the posts 21 when in storage, and a roof 30 and lockable box to house the roller and board assembly may be provided.
