Abstract

579,739. Incendiary mixtures. KING, J. G., and CAWLEY, C. M. Sept. 16, 1942, No. 13059. [Class 9 (ii)] An incendiary mixture comprises sodium nitrate, a reducing agent which reacts vigorously with oxygen supplied by the sodium nitrate, and a fuel which controls the rate of burning of the mixture and adds to the total incendiary effect. The reducing agent is coke, active carbon, or charcoal, with or without silicon or calcium silicide. The fuel is a liquid, sol, gel or readily liquefiable solid (e.g. a solution of rubber in petrol or benzole), petroleum oil or paraffin wax. The proportion of sodium nitrate is greater than the proportion of reducing agent.
