[Class 55 (ii)] A gaseous fuel mixture, particularly for use in blow-pipes or torches for metal-working and like operations, comprises a combustible gas mixture, e.g. coal gas, water gas, producer gas, or Mond gas, together with propane in a proportion in excess of 17 per cent of the final mixture and preferably not exceeding 90 per cent. Ammonia may be added to retard the rapid evaporation of the propane, and ether or other liquid having a high hydrocarbon content, e.g. petrol of high velocity, benzene, alcohols and vegetable oils such as turpentine or eucalyptus, may be added to modify the flame temperature and rate of flame propagation. The mixture may comprise 50 per cent coal gas, 40 per cent propane, and 10 per cent ether, or 25 per cent coal gas, 60 per cent propane, and 15 per cent ether. If the basic gas already contains propane, the amount of additional propane is decreased. The basic gas, the propane, or the mixture may be stored under pressure. The mixture may be supplied to the nozzle of a blow-pipe or torch through a series of orifices spaced about a central oxygen orifice.
