Abstract

[Class 78 (i)] [Also in Group XXVI] The stem of a pneumatically actuated lift valve for use in vibratory mechanism is mounted within the valve chamber by means of a flexible diaphragm, or diaphragms, which form a resilient sealing wall, or walls, for part of the chamber, the stem having direct or indirect connection to the vibratory mechanism which is outside the casing. The stem a, Fig. 1, of the valve is connected to the casing c above and below a seating c<1>, and above and below the inlet f and exhaust g, by thin flexible diaphragms d, e, which may be made of copper, or other readily flexible metal, or of a resilient non-porous material such as india rubber. A conically-pointed pin l rests on the reciprocating member and transmits its motion to the article to be vibrated. This pin passes through an india rubber sealing disc in which is clamped to the casing. In a modification, Fig. 2, the reciprocating member is a ball q on which rests a saddle r connected to the lower end of a stem a. The stem is positioned by a single flexible diaphragm d.
