Abstract

579,012. Wireless apparatus. MARCONI'S WIRELESS TELEGRAPH CO., Ltd., and BURROUGHS, E. R. April 26, 1944, No. 7814. [Class 40 (v)] [Also in Group XXXVI] A combined variable inductance and trimming condenser comprises a pair of insulated tubes mounted end to end on a metal plug. One plate of the condenser is mounted on the outer surface of one of the tubes, the other electrode being formed as an internal sliding tube, while the other tube supports the inductance which has a movable iron core. The outer ends of the insulated tubes are sealed with metallic plugs. The ceramic tubes 1, 2 are metallised at their ends 14, 15, 16, 17, and are soldered to the metal plugs 3, 8 and 18. The condenser comprises the layer of metallising 4 on the tube 1 and the split and sprung internal electrode 7 attached to the externally threaded tube 4<1>. The inductance is wound on the tube 2 and is adjusted by means of the iron-dust core 6 attached to the rod 5. The plug 8 is formed with an externally and internally threaded spigot 10 which is parallel over the portion 11 and tapered and split over the rest of its length, a locking nut 12 serving to lock the tube 4<1> - after adjustment. The rod 5 is a sliding fit in the tube 4<1> and is locked in position after adjustment by the nut 13, the tube 4<1> being split and tapered over the portion 9. The assembly may be enclosed in an outer ceramic tube (not shown) which is metallised at the ends and soldered to the plugs 8 and 18.
