Abstract

453,538. Impedance networks. MARCONI'S WIRELESS TELEGRAPH CO., Ltd., Electra House, Victoria Embankment, and BRAILSFORD, J. D., 14, Bolan Street, Battersea, both in London, and O'NEILL, R. F., Lindorel, Fourth Avenue, Chelmsford. March 16, 1935, No. 8275. [Classes 40 (iii) and 40 (v)] An artificial line, particularly for loading the anode circuits of frequency-changers, comprises an inductive coil 1, Fig. 2, and a metal member 4, which provides the major portion of the distributed capacity of the coil 1, with means for varying the inductance per unit length and /or the distributed capacity per unit length of the coil. The cylinder 4 is split at 4a and a screw 8 serves to increase the diameter of the cylinder 4. Alternatively, the split cylinder 4 has turned-up ends 4b, Fig. 3, and the coil has tapered end-pieces 14, 15, adapted to be relatively moved in an axial direction bv a screw-knob 17 so that the split cylinder can be expanded or contracted. In these two modifications, the distributed capacity is varied. In Fig. 6, the coil 1 is mounted rigidly with a split cylinder 25 to slide on a tube 18 having an iron-dust core 21 and an embracing di-electric cylinder 22, so that axial movement of the coil varies both the inductance and the capacity of the coil. Specification 450,520 is referred to.
