Abstract
578,842. Automatic ordnance. MOLINS, D. W., and MOLINS MACHINE CO., Ltd. Sept. 29, 1942, No. 13672. [Class 92 (i)] Relates to automatic loading appliances in which the round is pushed partly into the breech after which it continues its forward travel by momentum. According to the invention, vibration of the rear of the round is prevented by flared guide elements 11, 12 extending rearwardly from each side of the breech and adjusted to provide a small clearance or tolerance for the base of the round. The invention is shown applied to automatic ramming and loading means for a six-pounder gun as described in Specifications 578,477 and 578,478, The guide elements 11, 12 are formed on plates 1, 2 adjustably fixed by bolts 3, 6 to the standing breech. The breech block 10, shown in closed position, has guides 111, 112 which are in alignment with the guides 11, 12 when the block is in open position. The nose of the round in falling is arrested and guided by an extension 9 of the plate 2. Specification 246,794, [Class 100 (ii)], also is referred to.
