540,825. Gun mountings. KENDALL, W. D, and BRITISH MANUFACTURE & RESEARCH CO., Ltd. Jan. 23, 1940, No. 1365. [Class 92 (i)] Relates to mountings for magazine-fed automatic guns of the kind in which the axis of the trunnions 40 is, in the direction of fire, situated to the rear of the training axis 26 of the turntable 23. According to the invention, the axis of the gun barrel 30 and the axis of the recoil mechanism 33 are situated on opposite sides of the trunnion axis and preferably at equal distances therefrom. Further, one or more steadying clips 60 are provided round the gun barrel and are fixed to the front thrust plate 54 of the spring recoil apparatus. The guide bars 52 of the recoil apparatus pass through the cranked part of the trunnion against which bears the rear end of the recoil spring 53. The invention is shown applied to gun mounting as described in Specification 539,775. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specifications 1802/04, [Class 92], 21299/09, [Class 92 (ii)], and 22115/09, [Class 92 (i)].
