Abstract

578,430. Sparking-plugs. MALLORY METALLURGICAL PRODUCTS, Ltd. June 22, 1944,. No. 11858. Convention date, June 22, 1943. [Class 7 (iv)] [Also in Group II] A sparking-plug consists of a central electrode 12 with a tip 11 formed predominantly of tungsten and a side electrode 10 formed predominantly of platinum. The electrode 11 may be formed of a material consisting of pure tungsten, tungsten-molybdenum-nickel alloy, tungsten-nickel-gold alloy, tungsten-nickel-copper alloy, tungsten-boron alloy, tungsten alloyed borides and nitrides of elements in the fourth, fifth and sixth groups of the periodic table,. tungsten-zirconium alloy or tungsten-uranium alloy. The side electrode may consist of a platinum base alloy containing molybdenum, beryllium, rhenium, niobium, tin, chromium, cobalt, iron, manganese, palladium, iridium, rhodium, ruthenium, osmium, tungsten or tantalum. The platinum alloy 40 of the side electrodes, Fig. 4, may be backed by strips 41 of base metal. For examples of alloys used see: Group II.
