578,176. Air intakes. MARTIN, J.; and MARTINBAKER AIRCRAFT CO., Ltd. Aug. 7, 1944, No. 14997. [Class 7 (iii)] [Also in Group XXXIII] An intake duct for supplying air to the engines of aircraft comprises a shallow cellular structure extending longitudinally beneath the engine from front to rear and having an intake opening 9 in front and an outlet orifice 13 at the rear for making an airtight joint with the carburettor of the engine. As shown in Fig. 6, which is a view of the rear part only of the duct, the cellular form is obtained by longitudinal vertical partitions 15 and 16 forming channels 17 leading to a rear curved plate 43 constituting part of the orifice 13, the channels 17 being horizontally divided by a curved plate 44 at the orifice; a resilient sealing ring 36 is mounted in a trough round the edge of the orifice 13 and is received by a corresponding member on the carburettor. The duct is secured by laminated lugs 3 and 6 bolted to brackets in the aircraft and by flanges 25 detachably fastened to panels of the engine cowling.
