577,545. Electromagnets. LANDIS & GYR SOC. ANON. Dec. 17, 1943, No. 21236. Convention date, Dec. 21, 1942. [Class 35] [Also in Group XXXVII] The plunger 1 of an electromagnet moves at a definite value of excitation of its winding 4 by being provided with a curved surface on which bear rollers 8 carried by bell-crank levers 7 pivoted at 6. An adjustable screw 15 bears on a leaf spring 13 pivoted at 14 and engaging a pin 12 loosely interconnecting the levers 7. Curves are given showing how the opposing force of the system diminishes as the plunger 1 begins to move and finally assists the magnetic pull, so as to compensate for the increasing tension of the normal control spring 10. The invention is also applicable to pivoted and rotary armatures, Figs. 6-9 (not shown), and includes a split-tube formation of plunger, Fig. 10 (not shown).
