Abstract
577,098. Carburetters. CLOTHIER, W. C., and NAYLOR, nee SHILLING, B. June 14, 1940, No. 10340. [Class 7 (iii)] Fuel fed under pressure into a tubular member 3, Fig. 1, is sprayed through an opening 4 and atomized by a current of air entering with high velocity through slots 5 surrounding the opening 4, so that the air impinges at an angle on the fuel stream. The slots 5 are supplied with air from a chamber 6 surrounding the member 3 and connected by a passage 5 and automatic flap valve 11 either to the atmospheric intake 1 or to a boost pressure intake 10. The member 3 may be fitted with a valve 3<1> as described in Specification 577,099. In a modification, Fig. 2, the fuel enters past a spring- loaded valve 11, which is surrounded by a conveying air passage 12, supplied with air at 13. In a carburetter with twin parallel air intakes, a single tubular member mounted between them supplies fuel to both intakes through opposed slots in the sides.
