Abstract

576,520. Pipe joints. KAY, F. Oct. 4, 1944, No. 19024. [Class 99 (i)] The flared end 10 of a pipe is compressed against a packing ring 9 seated on the end face of the coupling member 1 by a coupling nut 4 having an internal flange 5 engaging the flared pipe ends. The flared end may be conical and engage 'the packing by an edge 8, the' angle of the flare being about 30‹. Alternatively the pipe has a curved flare preferably on a radius equal to 1/16 of the diameter of the pipe. The flange 5 of the nut is coned or curved to fit the flare of the pipe.
