[Class 100 (ii)] [Also in Group VIII] A compound plastic sheet, which is especially applicable for the production of printing-plates is formed with a normally hard plastic surface, such as a polymerized artificial resin, or a cellulosic thermoplastic material, united to a similar surface which is softer or more resilient than the first surface. The two surfaces are united by heat and pressure, by rolling, or by means of cement and if desired a bonding sheet of fabric. The design is applied to the hard surface by moulding from a matrix which may comprise a lubricated phenol formaldehyde resin. The hard layer may be composed of the copolymer of polyvinyl chloride and acetate in which the proportion of acetate is not greater than 20 per cent, and the soft layer composed of the same material and a plasticiser such as dibutyl phthalate, which may comprise from 40-45 per cent of the copolymer. Either or both layers may contain 20-25 per cent of a filler such as talc powder, or titanium oxide. An alternative composition contains plasticised polyvinyl chloride as the hard layer. The hard layer may be formed from ethyl cellulose with or without a small proportion of a plasticiser, and the soft layer of the same but highly plasticised material, or of plasticised polyvinyl chloride, or copolymer of polyvinyl acetate and chloride.
